Who will strike gold?

Last year, current champion Dmitry Koltakov came to the Netherlands with an almost unbeatable lead and comfortably took the title by massive thirty-five point margin. He now trails behind Dinar Valeev, the youngest of the four Russians in contention and the only one not to have collected a medal to date. Fifth last year, Valeev is in the best form of his career and will be hard to dislodge from the top position but Daniil Ivanov, who was World Champion in both 2013 and 2014 will be fighting to add another gold medal to his collection along with Dmitri Khomitsevich, winner in 2016. The championship might not be settled until the very last race of the season but whatever the result of this exciting title chase, a feast of ice speedway is assured.

PRESS RELEASE - 2019 FIM ICE SPEEDWAY GLADIATORS WC - HOT FINALE IN INZELL!

After an eventful, not to say crashed, Saturday Grand Prix, all drivers reappeared for the driver's welcome. As usual of the men in Inzell, the collection was celebrated in typical Bavarian style.

The overall lead of the Russian favorites has not changed much after the 7th Grand Prix (Saturday). The first four pilots are only separated by 5 points. As leader of today's Grand Prix, Daniil Ivanov scored 116 points overall ahead of Dinar Valeev 115, Dimitry Koltakov 112 and Dimitry Khomitsevich with 111 points. If you wanted to look for a "weak point" in the Russians, this time it concerned Koltakov, who could not convince on Saturday night with his starting speed.

DINAR OPENS A LEAD!

The race for the 2019 FIM Ice Speedway World Championship took another turn on Sunday as Dinar Valeev opened up a two-point lead at the top of the classification on the second day in Inzell. Predictably it was the four top Russians who qualified for the final but, unlike his disappointment in the final on Day 1, Valeev stormed to a victory over holder Dmitry Koltakov and Daniil Ivanov to stand at the top of the podium after an impressive weekend in Bavaria for the young contender. Dmitry Khomitsevich may have seen his medal hopes fade when finishing last in the final but the stage is set for a dramatic climax to the championship when Final 5 takes place in Heerenveen in two weeks’ time where only six points seperate the top four riders.

Daniil Ivanov continued his chase for the title when he won the first day’s competition in the FIM Ice Speedway World Championship in Inzell, Germany on Saturday. Ivanov, champion in 2013 and 2014 is seeking his third title and now leads the standings by just one point. He dropped two points in his first race behind Dmitry Khomitsevich and Dinar Valeev but then rode unbeaten through the final to collect 19 points from the meeting and boost his season’s total to 116.
